about

From the album and project Poppyland Songs; Life On A Cliff Edge.
Nominated for the Norfolk Arts Awards 2022 ‘Poppyland Songs’ is a musical tapestry telling the stories of life on a cliff edge through song inspired by 100 year old journals . With support from Arts Council England, Bertie gathered stories & memories from people past & present in Poppyland, North Norfolk and composed a song cycle.
There is also an accompanying podcast to this album.

The lyrics to this song were written by Nikki Rodwell, writer and poet and Poppyland resident. She and her husband Martin were the first people who agreed sit down and share their stories with me. This poem really resonated with me as it is all about being remembered which is at the heart of Poppyland Songs.

lyrics

A vision, perhaps an ancient quill featherless, waiting to be dipped in inky blue.

Take me and bury me someplace safe, away from the danger of a wandering dog's teeth, or being swallowed by the ocean never to be found.

I have soured in times gone by to beautiful places, but my final flight rests at heaven's door.

If you find me, place my weary bone somewhere to remember me by, a dish of potpourri a box of treasured nik-naks or a pin to hold silken hair

I have soured in times gone by to beautiful places, but my final flight rests at heaven's door.
