From the album and project Poppyland Songs; Life On A Cliff Edge.
Nominated for the Norfolk Arts Awards 2022 ‘Poppyland Songs’ is a musical tapestry telling the stories of life on a cliff edge through song inspired by 100 year old journals . With support from Arts Council England, Bertie gathered stories & memories from people past & present in Poppyland, North Norfolk and composed a song cycle.
There is also an accompanying podcast to this album.

THE LAND IS SAD WITHOUT THEE,
AND THE HILLS ARE DRAPED IN MIST
THE FLOWERS DREAM ABOUT THEE
IN THE FIELDS THY FEET HAVE KIST

THEY HAVE REAPED THE PURPLE CLOVER
THAT THE SKYLARK SOARED ABOVE
BUT THE HARVEST TIME IS OVER

These Lyrics are a poem written by Clement Scott. Scott was a journalist, theatre critic and poet who bestowed the name Poppy-Land on Noth Norfolk when he visited in 1883. His article, published in teh Daily Telegraph directly led to a tourist boom in Cromer and surrounding villages.
